I get as much joy from looking at a beautiful rug as I do from looking at pictures, ceramics or sculptures. I'm talking about hand made rugs of course. There is an amazing amount of skill, both in the actual technique of  the weaving and knotting, but also in the choice of colours and patterns. It is indeed an art form.I am particularly fond of Caucasian rugs made in the Soviet era. This is a Seychour Cross rug, with gorgeous colours and a complex design. I have Shirvans, Kubas, Perepidils also. The colours shown here are typical of Caucasian rugs. Modern Kazaks, mostly produced in Afghanistan, also use these colours and patterns, particularly the Shirvans. |
